Hi All. Just a quick note to introduce myself, although I've posted a few times already. I'm a Bowie fan; mostly of the 60s and 70s stuff but more recent too.

I grew up in the 80s going to record fairs and buying bootlegs which were often not that great. As I get older, I get more fussy with what I listen to, quality wise. But I love live recordings.

So now, I polish up bootlegs in my spare time and make them freely available to all. Some can be quite ropey with hiss, vinyl noise, tape dropout, odd noises or clicks, stuff like that - I can fix those, or at least improve them.

Then I work on EQing the sound. Many soundboards sound flat with little spacing between the instruments, for example. They sound fine until you run them through a 30 band EQ and play with the levels a bit - et voila, the stereo image opens out; kick drums "kick", guitars, bass, drums, synths, whatever - they all come to life. FM recordings can often be improved a lot too. Audience recordings less so - but if they're from near the front with plenty of level, they can certainly see the benefit also.

Sometimes I've taken different incomplete boots of the same gig with different tracks, and put them all back together, adjusting the EQ to make all the tracks sonically as similar as possible.

Only done 3 Bowie gigs so far but the remaster I did of the 74 LA Amphitheatre gig has been downloaded over 1700 times from my site since I did it 4 years ago, making it the most popular one of the 87 shows I've done in that time. It was turned into a torrent on here too, just last month, so I guess it will be downloaded more by those who want FLAC copies.

Some don't like what I do - my downloads are 320 kbps mp3 and some can't see the point in improving sound and then putting it in lossy format. That's fine, everyone is entitled to their opinion - everyone has their own tastes. But unlike bootlegs on CDs (often from poor quality transfers anyway), they're free, so it doesn't cost you anything to listen and make your own mind up. Some prefer to have a collection of CDs in nice covers of course - and that's fine too. Me, I'm just interested in the music really.

Plenty of people enjoy the files I put out (over 37000 downloads to the end of 2016) and I seem to be getting more recordings donated for me to work on than ever. So it keeps me busy, so I don't get loads of time on forums but I do like to keep in touch with other fans when I can. Hoping to do another couple of Bowie at least this year - from 78 and 95 or 96, I think, although I have quite a few to choose from.

ANYway, I've droned on far too long.  :)

My site is http://liveandloudshows.blogspot.co.uk/ for anyone curious.

Thanks very much :) Software. Specifically Adobe Audition v3 (the last version with the original -better - EQ algorithms, I understand). I also use it for fixing tape dropouts and the stereo image.

Most noise/hiss/clicks removal is now Izotope RX5.
