If anyone in the London area is going to the showing at Shepherds Bush, please drop me a PM - we can all meet up in the pub beforehand.

Looking forward to it but I'll be going to Bluewater or Rochester.

I saw this last week, and while most will know the film and won't need any encouragement to see it, I must say that seeing it on the big screen made it like a new film for me, and if you've only seen it on a TV then this is a must if you are able to get along to it.  The interview with Woody that precedes the film is very enjoyable too - it runs for about 40 mins, so you do at least get a bit more value for the ticket price (which is a bit more than usual for a cinema).  There's also a Ziggy collector's edition of Mojo for everyone that goes to a screening in the UK, so all in all it's not too bad a deal.

The big question is "is this a new HD transfer" closely followed by "what version of the mix is it?" (I have at least 3 different (official) stereo mixes of this not including remasters.......)
Maybe more.

All the publicity I've seen for this doesn't mention it being a new scan/HD transfer of any kind, and when any re-release has received such treatment it's normally trumpeted high and wide on all posters etc... all I've seen this referred to is a "re-release".  No idea about the sound mix, although after tonight I guess a few people will have some ideas on that?

If anyone's interested in the poster designs, here's the new UK quad:

... and the international one-sheet:

Will be interested to read the thoughts of anyone who attends tonight  :)

I saw the Ziggy Stardust film the day it opened at the Lumiere in St. Martin's Lane. That was a lovely little place. I still have an original poster that I took off a corrugated fence in Kingston one evening and tonight I shall be going to the Kingston Odeon to see it again.

Well, just giving this thread a little bump as the screenings were nearly a week ago... how did people get on with this?

It was great to see it on the big screen even though the sound system at the venue we attended seemed wrong to my ears - I was getting more from the left rears than from the front left but this might have been the way the room was set up.
It sounded like a live PA as well - loads of drumkit, plenty of power there and sounded to me like Tony Visconti's remix version. It's a real shame the cinema was only about 10% attended but that is Shepherds Bush for you these days. It was also pleasant that nobody had their bloody telephones on all through the show - this often happens when we go to a regular film along with the crunch, crunch, rustle, rustle of the foyer picnic sweets - again thankfully absent.

All in all a very enjoyable evening.

Good to hear you enjoyed it, Neil.  Good point about the sound being like a live PA - I agree, and it really does remove that bit of distance and makes it all much more immersive.  And yep, the lack of 'phones among the audience was nice - very 1973!

I also enjoyed the absence of phones I think that was a sign of the average viewer!

At Rochester it was about 40% full, the ticket clerk said it would be on at 8 after all the Pearl and Dean so we went and had a meal. Got back in time only to be told it had started and we'd missed about 20 mins of Woody.

The cinema had kept the low glow ceiling lights on and that made the dark screen much worse. The sound was fine.

Cost was great, got in under meerkat movie deal so only £11.50 for 2 tickets.

Was a tad irked to find that the free Mojo was the edition I'd bought only a few days earlier. Nice to have the souvenir cover though.

Seems there were no ads/trailers (maybe a brief one for a car between the interview & the film?), so it was a pity you missed a bit of the interview, SunMachine.  By way of coincidence, my wife went to the Rochester showing!

Never did get the cover even though Vue promised me they were sending them out.
I must hassle them again I think

I know they had plenty left over at the cinema I went to. Might be worth phoning around others that showed it or contact the magazine directly.
