Shurely a great gift and surprise.
Let's hope they will do enough copies for RSD worldwide.

That is exciting, is this for the Us or European record store day? Both I hope.

Too bad it's Tony Visconti that is doing the mix of Cracked Actor, it might end up sounding as dead as Nassau, that sadly sounds better on bootleg.

I think there will be a DVD later, if the complete show was filmed, wouldn't it be weird if they only filmed a cpl of songs for the documentary. Releasing it in parts and not all formats at the same time is very much how I see the Bowie Vulture Store strategy at the moment.

The official Nassau Coliseum release was mixed by Harry Maslin. And yes, Visconti is also reponsible for a couple of 'dead mixes' of recordings which sound more exciting on bootlegs.

Youre right, I should have read the liner notes again.

In general I think it's weird the way Bowie records are being redone, the Station To Station LP from the 2010 box set, the Ziggy Stardust from 2012 and the latest Man Who Sold The World all sound great, and then pretty much the rest are brickwalled and whatever else they do to them, there are no reason not to do it right, and no reason that the good versions dont become the standard, STS 2010 should be the master for all new STS LPs.

The complete show was filmed. This is the audio from that recording remixed by Tony V. who, I think you will find, has done a great job.

ER - no.
Tony did NOT do the Nassau mix, that was by Harry Maslin.
It does sound better ion the Seagull Records bootleg though as the HM mix is godawful as well as butchered in the mastering.

Where can these RSD releases be pre ordered?
We have long had the 1974 show on bootleg as "Strange Fascination" or "A Portrait In Flesh" but a decent Tony Visconti mix would be most welcome.

An official CD should be available by the end of the year.

was hoping for something new when I read 'Philly Dogs Tour' in the official statement. But it's really just good old Strange Fascination... will it be better than the Glass Asylum vinyl? I kinda doubt it.

The BBC didn't film the whole show but did film most of it. Sadly, none of the unused footage remains in the BBC archive.

The audio recording of the show was undertaken by Wally Heider Recording for RCA/Mainman. This has been circulating for a number of years as "Strange Fascination" and this is the one Tony Visconti has remastered for the RSD release.

I'm not sure anyone is really bothered about quality.
It looks like the 74 live is from the same source as 'Strange Fascination' - owned by another fan.
I'd have to ask if he was paid for the tapes.

That is not all that encouraging

I hope they don't edit out Bowie's crazy chatter on the live album.

well seeing how Strange Fascination is a mono recording it will not be the same source, There is a stereo recording of the show which only inner circle folk have and that is much better quality and in stereo, so is probably the master from those stereo recordings.

This is the same show filmed by Alan Yentob for the Cracked Actor =docco, and originally this was supposed to be released but the BBC refused to pay the extortionate prices demanded by Tony DeFries.
The complete show was filmed and exists only in Alan Yentob's private archives I suspect.

Not too sure where the "mono only" idea comes from either - I have a stereo copy and have had it for yonks now (just checked it in headphones and it is certainly in stereo although it is admittedly very narrow and typical of mixes intended for broadcast at the time in the USA, because the AM/FM thing was still an issue. I'll check all my versions of this & find out what the best one is but I am really looking forward to hearing Tony's mix.
