I have it on good authority that Strange Fascination was taken from the same two inch, 16 track tapes.
Where do you get your mis-information?
The owner of the tapes lent them to Warner.
Let's hope for the best.
I for one would have preferred they were left alone.
Much like Hammersmith.
The Robin Mayhew recording is like night and day compared to the official release.
This time they definitely won't be stolen by bootlegging profiteers.
I'm not against bootlegs - I'm against someone repackaging, repressing, for purely monetary gain.
If that money had gone to Robin we might be seeing more hidden treasures.
As it is because of these parasites people who have stuff will keep it to themselves.
It's only my opinion.

Would like to hear the Visconti Mix though! Hope they incude the 10 minute intro, though doubt it!

There has always been a lot of info doing the rounds regarding the 'Cracked Actor' filming and it's subsequent audio. From someone I know, who himself knew a BBC technician that worked on the show, there does exist a copy of the film, with a code bar at the bottom (that is only taken out or a finished cut) but the guy said only he & his gunner has a copy, so if he was to pass it on, it would be both of them for the high jump. Now whether this is all bullshit is another matter, bit is does seem plausible.
As for the audio, just a quick listen to 'Crack Actor' from the show a/b against the bootleg audio and one can hear they are different mixes of the same show, so logically it does exist in a different mix.
I only hope that for the sake of most of us, we treat this RSD as a 'semi official' release and admin allow it to be uploaded here if someone is lucky enough to secure one !

I think uploading something that comes from RSD and/or is listed on the site "davidbowie.com" as a special release could be a "high jump", I can't imagine that will be allowed by the mods here.   :-(

@Davesolar, yes I guess so. Let's hope there is a proper CD release then. It seems mad to me that something like these two releases won't be available to a wider audience.

well seeing how Strange Fascination is a mono recording it will not be the same source, There is a stereo recording of the show which only inner circle folk have and that is much better quality and in stereo, so is probably the master from those stereo recordings.

huh? Got mine about 25 years ago and it's always been stereo, just as later reissues (Portrait in flesh etc...)

Speaking of misinformation!

The RSD release is a combination of two sources. The majority of the concert is from the original MainMan masters. The two-inch 16-track tapes that were the source of the Strange Fascination bootleg were rebounced and used to fill in gaps in the MainMan-commissioned master. So the vast majority of the show is from a different, superior, source to the one we have already heard.

Exciting stuff.

Can't listen to the Harry Maslin mix  - 'kin awfulI've got the Why Arts Records recording from here which his pretty but does anybody have the Seagull Records bootleg of the gig they can post please ?

I have this.
Will upload it today

@everyone who thinks Tony Visconti's mixes are "flat" - I suspect the truth of this is that they were butchered in mastering, not by Tony. His mixes are superb and far from being flat sounding
