My apologies. I have those versions on CD but I don't therefore have this unofficial 8CD set so I too would really like a link if somebody has one.

I have been on holiday and always read a book this year it was 'Mick Ronson - The Spider with the Platinum Hair' a great read lots of stuff I didn't know about Ronson with all his other collaborations.Mentioned in this book [page 291] an unofficial 8 CD set culled from the Ryko vaults which mentions multiple versions of Memory of a free festival / Star / also Life on Mars with Ronno telling Rick Wakeman how to play a piano part. Does anybody here have this or heard of this?? it states this is very rare. For anyone who hasn't read this book get a copy it's brilliant.I am now trying to expand my Ronson collection using this book and looking for his collaboration work, have the most common ones with Ian Hunter and then the odd tracks with Elton John/The Wildhearts/Roger McGuinn/Dylan.If anybody has anything can you let me know please.Steveboy

You should ask Jeff Rougvie what the book may have been referring to, since he wrote about the process of transferring the Bowie archives to DAT so that the songs could be reviewed - http://www.jeffrougvie.com/bowie-blog/2015/7/9/25-years-ago-part-6

But he's the one who had the access to everything. And it's most certainly unofficial. But at any rate, he "read" my message on Facebook but never responded. Waiting for Dr. Toby Mountain to accept my request so I can bug him about it too.

What are we talking about here please? The 'Golden Years' Ryko BMG Club Edition, or the mysterious 8CD set mentioned?
I ask purely because I would be seriously grateful for the latter, but I have the AU20 set.
The difference between the Ryko AU20 and the 'regular' Ryko editions is quite obvious to me as the Box Set (Golden Years, I mean) is a remastered version done in 1997 that is absolutely not the same as the 1990-1992 Ryko (US) and EMI (Europe) releases. The Box Set versions are to my mind a superior job (and that is saying something as I like the Ryko regular variant - my only criticism was that some are a tad thin and this box corrected that so you really need to have both sets in the collection.
Trouble is the 'Golden Years' box is usually north of $1,000 these days as they were strictly limited to 1,000 numbered copies - this was in the days when a limited edition meant that - it was limited, unlike Parlophone whose idea of a limited run is to repress & regouge.....

But if the set you have is different to the Ryko Golden Years box can I please get a copy?
I have lots to trade & swap and a PM with an email address will get you a list of what I have.

This box is actually a very well kept secret, and I wonder that it was mentioned in the book about Mick Ronson. Very few people own it and it has versions that so far remain unreleased still in bootlegs.
Usually whoever owns it, or who knows who owns it, tries to take it as a joke and say that it is in fact the one with the golden versions.
I'm trying to convince a fan who has it to publish photos of the real box, but it's hard to convince him

There seems to be a lot of confusion with the Ryko releases as so many people do not seem to realise that there are 2 different sets of 'Ryko Remasters'.
There are the ones done in piecemeal in batches from 1990/1991/1992, and then there are the AU20 redone in 1997, and these are totally different remasters.
Then there was the BMG Club only Boxed edition, limited to 1,000 copies, which are the same as the 'standalone' AU20 versions.

The only 'Ryko remasters' that were done & considered for use (but not used) are those that were prepared in the mid 1990's for the 'anthology' box set that never happened in the end. Some tracks have appeared most notably on the well known ROIO 'The Trident Tapes' amongst others.
Lightning Frightening (Alternate Version)
Tired Of My Life
Shadowman
Rupert The Riley (Version 2)
How Lucky You Are
Also possibly considered & looked at were the alternate versions of Holy Holy, Amsterdam, Bombers, Velvet Goldmine, Round And Round & All The Young Dudes (also on 'The Trident Tapes').

I don't buy the 'silent Conspiracy Theory' above at all.

If anybody knows it would be Jeff or Toby Mountain.
Jeff did the Ryko editions, and Dr Toby Mountain did the remastering (twice in the case of the AU20 series). If they have no knowledge then it is not real. Period.

I suspect that the reference in the Ronno book is all about the scrapped anthology box

Yeah but they are all lop-sided.
Had to boost the volume on one side etc.

What are all lopsided please?
Getting confused now.

Also the AU20 8-disc set are utterly different masters to the regular Ryko editions, and I suspect this is what is being referred to. I'll reach out to Jeff too - I have his email somewhere, and he has been very responsive in the past.
