With the Inglewood show just getting out after 46(!) years, I've been thinking (not always a good move but whatever).

We all love Bowie's '70s tours and are glad to have, for example,  three '74s and two '78s officially released.

As far as I know there is only the brickwalled Nassau Coliseum show representing the wonderful '76 tour.

Obviously we've all got the field recordings of plenty of shows, but if you take a look at other artists, their companies have released multiple shows from particular years. The Grateful Dead, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, and Frank Zappa, for example, come to mind.

Surely some official recordings exist of other shows that could be remastered and issued (digital would be fine by me) to satisfy the masses.

I suspect there is plenty available to release and some might appear in due course over the coming years.  Personally, I would rather see it sooner than later.

The whole legacy release structure seems to be all over the shop at times.  We get some cracking issues then we get 35th and 45th coloured vinyl pressings for no real reason at all.

Then, we have the shambles that was the Brilliant Live Adventures series which turned into the biggest farce with no idea when they will press new copies of the albums people struggled to get hold of.

Or, we have the Five Years box set that sells for a mint now and could do with a new issues but they seem to refuse point blank to do anything about that either.

I wonder what the thought process behind all these releases might be?

The 1976 tour was certainly wayward here and there - fantastic as its best, the Nassau recording is good evidence of that.

Unfortunately both the original FM broadcast and the Concert Vault version of the show sound better than the dry and overloaded official releases.

Some of the shows Bowie was so drunk, the band lacked a leader - yep I know Carlos was band leader, but often a band is ultimately guided by its star, and as the star was all over the place, so was the band in terms of how well they performed as such shows. I listened through a couple of such shows, and it sounded a mess, like it could have been *any* half organised band up on stage, rather than arguably the 70s' best performer.

This however has given me further hope for a while -

Tony Kaye said Bowie discovered two live recordings that are “so much better” than the official live release 1976.

Who knows how long we might have to wait to hear the evidence ourselves.

Hopefully not forever...

I agree that the official Nassau release was dry - from what I recall of the Nassau 23 Mar recordings "Resurrection on 84th Street" seemed to be rated as the best but it doesn't appear to have been posted here. (I may be wrong & often am!)

"Not sure why they would release inferior quality"
So the faithful will buy it again ?

Personally speaking I'd prefer to have a good 1973 release, the Hammersmith farewell was so heavily 'doctored' by Visconti I can't stand listening to it and Robin Archer's version is from a pretty worn out cassette. Don't know if any of the other 1973 dates were multitrack recorded (NY?), if so can we hope for a 50th anniversary release next year?
