The story behind the lollipop incident in the paper today:

Norwegian:
http://www.kjendis.no/2016/01/11/kjendis/david_bowie/david_bowie_and_kjerlighet/trine_hafstad/konsert/42713785/#_ga=1.119178506.2001631255.1415054558

English (Google Translate):
https://translate.google.com/translate?sl=no&tl=en&js=y&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.kjendis.no%2F2016%2F01%2F11%2Fkjendis%2Fdavid_bowie%2Fdavid_bowie_and_kjerlighet%2Ftrine_hafstad%2Fkonsert%2F42713785%2F%23_ga%3D1.119178506.2001631255.1415054558&edit-text=

There is one funny mistake in the title in the translation. "Kjærlighet" in Norwegian might be both a lollipop and love.

As she says, it was an accident and not done on purpose.

That must have been some 'crash' to have pushed a tiny "love" ("love" so funny! Isn't language great..?!:D) from her hand 5 metres through a crowd at an upward trajectory and hit him in the eye. Realistically, the only way something is going to get onto the stage is if it is thrown overarm.

So, for me anyway, her story doesn't quite 'stack up' in the way that it's been told but it's an interesting story overall. Thank you for sharing it!

Let's face it, nobody, least of all a huge fan like Trine would throw anything at Bowie in an attempt to hurt him.

It has to have been an accident as she described, and I could imagine it happening.

Throwing it was deliberate (people throw all sorts of strange things onstage), but hitting him in the eye and sticking it could only have happened by accident.

Welcome back, Tony.

...and then my mind split open.

Pretty wild story and (no offense intended) the english translation was pretty hilarious too ; I'm glad to hear that nothing bad happened to Trine. I'll bet Bowie was furious when it happened... 8o  :-@

From what I've heard he took it as a bad omen. He was always kind of superstitious, and around that time he was undoubtedly feeling chest pains, shortness of breath and so on, so when that happened - to the same eye, no less - it freaked him out a bit.

...and then my mind split open.

Throwing things on stage: A friend who had been at a concert told me this:

Jerry Lee Lewis had a concert in Norway in 1977-78 that a lot of hard-core "The Killer" fans had travelled and looking forward to a long time. Quite a lot of them drunk as a skunk, and one jerk throwing a beer bottle in Jerry Lee's head abot 3 songs into the concert. Jerry stood up from the piano, angry as hell asking who the hell did such a thing! Lots of screaming, no real answer.
Jerry said no way he would play anymore, and QUIT!

Outside lots of trouble, and the guy sure got some hits! No money back, and lots of sad fans.

I also find it hard to believe that being bumped from behind could send the lollipop towards Bowie's eye. A bit of a 'white lie' on her account I would say. Its seems more likely that she threw it as a spontaneous gesture when she found it in her pocket. Why on earth did she take it out of her pocket otherwise? I don't think it was malicious - just someone foolish wanting to make some kind of contact with her hero. It was probably intended as a gesture of love/affection in a way. But still a stupid thing to do. Anyway I am glad it wasn't done out of spite.
I was at the Tin Machine concert in the Town & Country Club London in 89 and there was a 'fan' in front of me who was shouting abuse at Bowie during the concert. At one point he spat at Bowie and it landed right in Bowie's mouth whilst he was singing a long note. Bowie was cool, took a drink of water and spat it back out into the audience. He then glared in my direction. I wanted to yell "it wasn't me - it was this tosser in front of me!"
