Hi,

I can certainly help out, but what I need to know is the name and versions of the following:

- Your Operating System
- Your torrent client

Regards,

There is no online guide on BS yet, but here is a guide how to create a torrent with uTorrent:
http://www.callingallgeeks.org/how-to-create-a-torrent-file-and-upload-using-utorrent/

The tracker to use is: http://www.bowiestation.com/TT2/announce.php
You should also check "Private Torrent" and uncheck "Start Seeding".

On the upload page, I believe only the torrent file and category are mandatory fields, but please fill out as much as you can.

When you have successfully uploaded the torrent, you need to download the newly created torrent from BS and use that for seeding.

If anything is unclear, please ask.

Jan Erik

Hi Jan

Sorry to contradict you, but with uTorrent what you absolutely must do is untick "private torrent" and tick "start seeding" and once uploaded to Bowie Station & redownloaded with the passkey, you need to add the tracker to the existing list & then open the trackers info tab & delete the tracker for BS without the added passkey.
If the torrent is created by checking "private torrent" and unchecking "start seeding" it will not work properly & nobody will be able to download it.
I just rediscovered all this about 5 minutes ago.

I've not used uTorrent to create a torrent in many years. I prefer TLH, it's easier.

I'm not sure about this (as I state above) but not having "start seeding" ticked shouldn't make any difference. All it relates to is whether the torrent starts automaticlly when you load it into your torrent client. I prefer to start mine manually.

Fair comment - all I can go by is what happened to me here with torrents I created, and not having those options set as I describe resulted in a torrent that could not be downloaded. It is of course entirely possible I have something odd in the way of firewalling or the like going on at my end as our systems here are behind a hardware firewall.

With ticking the "Private Torrent", it disables the DHT. That means that the torrent can't be shared on other sites like pirate bay. If unticked, it might get downloaded by a lot of non-BS members.

If you use start seeding, then you are probably seeding through DHT, and the stats are not recorded by BS. Only other members that have DHT activated will be able to download from you.
What you need is to download the new torrent file from BS, and use that for seeding.

BTW,
I'm working on a uTorrent tutorial. First part is almost ready: http://www.bowiestation.com/TT2/guides/utorrent-install/

I agree with Jan Erik. The private torrent box needs to be checked in order to keep the torrent private otherwise it can be found by others. Plus we're in a private site and not ticking the box is used when creating public torrents.
I think you also need to add something in the description when creating the torrent on uTorrent.
Air, it's actually very easy once you get back to it, what's important is that you use the correct site announce and int the torrent you're creating to the correct directory.

Hi Jan
I always delete the initial tracker information as soon as I have downloaded the version with the passkey & started seeding that one. For some reason I cannot fathom, if I try to do it the other way & not create an initial version marked not private & not seeding it all falls apart & my downloaded passkeyed version does not work. However, you are correct & it seems to be showing under DHT
I seem to be doing something wrong so I must do better. Will try a different option later & make this work and will abandon current method as it is obviously flawed.

This guide below simply does not work for me at all - neither creating with uTorrent and the guide mentioned or with TLH - nothing ever starts to connect at all in Private node. The only way it ever works for me is to not use private mode, and that is a bad thing.

So - what the **** am I doing wrong? I am not totally stupid, but there must be something I am missing somewhere but I have no clue what it is, and I am starting to get really irritated with it all at this point, having created this twice now & neither time does it work.

Where do the source files need to be?
Where does the download location need to be - same place as the source or anywhere?
If everything all has to be & remain in the same place then this is bad news for me as that is not how my file system works.

Help!!

The files need to be in the uTorrent download folder (as default) or you can select the folder (where you have the files) when adding the torrent downloaded from BS. If you have selected uTorrent to start downloading automatically, you will not see that screen, but you can do the following:

- right click on the torrent
- Advanced -> Set Download Location
- Select the right folder

Sorry but it just isn't working at all for me.
I have tried everything suggested, and even placed the created torrent file & source folder in the usual download location but that only makes the upload go straight back to the start again.

I will have to find an alternative way, as I suspect it is our firewalls getting in the way of the private thing - DHT works but not with this off.

Here are the guides that are in the work:

Any comments would be nice before making those "official".

I'll have a rave on here there maybe some ideas in there then since we all use it different

Another thing on utorrent would also be to go into Preferences / Bittorrent and manually untick both enable DHT network & enable DHT network for new torrents. Then DHT should be disarmed then you can't seed through DHT at all.

I never start seeding as when you download passkey from a Tracker it just adds to seeding torrent you now have 2 trackers working on torrent getting refreshed all the time so it's doing twice as much work, 1 basically on a dead tracker so if you've got 1000 torrents it's refreshing 2000 trackers unless you go through manually and delete setup tracker when you download passkey .torrent file from Bowiestation,
plus If you start manually from passkey torrent file it will recheck all files first before starting then you'll know if you have any hash errors
