Greetings. Irish fella in Inverness, Scotland. Long time Bowie fan but not a fanatic. I had a few LPs of his (Low, Aladdin Sane, Sound & Vision 2LP and the 1991 remaster of TMWSTW). Currently completely crazed about Station To Station period. Can I confess I'd never heard that album before Bowie died? Just missed it along the way. Love it now, can't get enough.

Regarding bootlegs, I'm a total audio snob and rarely enjoy audience tapes, unless you're talking standards of folk like Mike Millard who did the amazing Led Zeppelin bootlegs in 1975 and 1977. Otherwise, I'm a SBD and FM/TV-source listener. Just cannae be arsed with poor quality audio, no matter how amazing the performance. 20 years of drumming with tinnitus doesn't help, I admit.

Which begs the question (and if there's a thread about this already, please someone link it to me, please): what are the best sounding bootlegs out there? Like a top ten? Big fan of 1975-1978 period and late 1990s/early 2000s.

To finish, I live just up the road from Boleskine House, which Bowie geeks will know from the Aleister Crowley and Jimmy Page connections. And yeah, you can find several old fellas down the pub who claim to have been a joiner for Jimmy Page, with plenty of wild tales to tell. Mostly all bullshit, of course.

Here's a link to a recent video which shows the awful destruction wrought by the house fire last December.

Cheers.

Interesting.  There's a fairly good documentary on Boleskine here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=593_RAHV7qs

It features Colin Wilson  - who Bowie was well versed in.

Fáilte FT. Enjoy the site!

As a big Zephead it cut to the quick when I heard about the fire. I had planned to visit it on a upcoming trip but now..................

Thanks, Mistersussex, for the Crowley documentary link. I'd seen it before. It's nicely done, I guess, but is a tad overwrought and is more manipulative than anything else. Great to see folk like Colin Wilson in it. There is no Loch Ness monster - it's purely for the tourists. However, there has always been a weird vibe around the stretch of road where Boleskine House lies. Just an odd darkness about it. Or maybe it's just the perpetual damp.

I will reiterate that there is an awful lot of nonsense written and spoken about Boleskine. The stories from Jimmy Page's housekeeper, the late Malcolm Dent, about so-called demonic occurences at the House, are to be taken with a large pinch of salt, and with an awareness of the trickster machinations of, and fees paid by, TV producers. Now there are some real demonic forces! Ha!

Go raibh maith agat, Tonebloke, if you're coming to the Highlands, do get in touch. Always happy to greet visitors, and feed their souls to the Monster... mwah ha ha ha... :-)
