It worked  :D  :D  :D  :D

They are now in the same folder in ITunes too
It is really weird

I restarted ITunes and renamed them, they merged into one folder in ITunes and the hard disc

the only difference there was when it was divided was that one had AIFF and one had apple losseles,
I have only had the problem with music that I have converted from FLAC, all my CDs that are AIFF have no problem sharing with mp3 or ACC or whatever else is there. Could it be that my XLD converter has a problem?

Thank you for your help  :D

I had a very similar problem after updating to iTunes 12.3.2:

https://discussions.apple.com/message/29637736?ac_cid=op123456#29637736

My solution was to downgrade to v12.3.1 from a Time Machine backup. I only updated to v12 because Apple sneakily stopped supporting v11 with iOS 9. iTunes has degraded from an average music player to an incredible bag of hurt.

I have had this problem thru a handful of ITunes update, I'm not sure what version was that last to not have the problem.

Every time there is an update I hope they finely fixed this, but the differences seem to be all about their store or other devises, not about ITunes as a music player and a place to store and sort ones collection. Its not like they are not aware of this problem, there are so many writing about problems like these.

I dont have a Time Machine that goes back far enough to before this problem.

thanks for the link, its interesting, and so are the links from it

I did all my albums in AIFF, any flacs into Apple Lossless making sure i stuck to same bit rates.
I'm also into HI RES AUDIO I have a few titles Bowie now, you don't go back to listening them on cd again ever after hi res 24 bit

>I just looked before giving them the names back, in hard disk they are now in one folder, even thou they showed up as two in the program.

Not entirely following this complex discussion, but: Sometimes iTunes will display one album as two albums, briefly, when one is changing around album names or other details. It often does this if you add a new track to an existing album, too. But it is a temporary situation, usually. Oftentimes if you navigate away from that album to some entirely different album, by typing into the iTunes search box some other album title, like, say, ABBA Gold (why not), and then come back to the Bowie album you will find iTunes has caught up with itself and is now displaying the Bowie album as one album.

Also, general advice:

In iTunes preferences > advanced, make sure you have "Keep iTunes Media Folder Organized" UNCHECKED.  Checking it would invite weirdness of the worst kind.

--Lastly, here's my flac to Apple Lossless process if anyone is interested in other workflows--

I use the program "Max" to convert flacs to Apple Lossless - and during this step most of the needed metadata can be added, such as song titles (if the uploader wasn't nice enough to do this for everyone), album title (I use a similar convention of "YYYYMMDD Venue, Location", e.g. "20040422 Greek Theatre, Los Angeles CA" ), genre, year, and track numbering. I could stop there, but then I take the resulting Apple Lossless files and drop them into "Tagr", because Tagr has even better metadata editing abilities than Max does, most importantly the ability to automatically rename the files with better file names, like "01 Rebel Rebel.mp4" rather than "01 D01T01.mp4" or whatever the flacs may have been called. Then I drag the "20040422 Greek Theatre, Los Angeles CA" folder into my iTunes' David Bowie directory, and do the usual iTunes > Add to Library > navigate to that folder and iTunes does its thing, adding the album. Sounds like a chore but its routine now.

I do the same as willb3d, I use Tagr and drag the files in the iTunes Bowie directory, then I add to library.
Never had problems of this kind. But I don't leave the album artist blank though, I use the same name for all files in the Bowie directory.

I have a large collection & dont experience  this problem. I  would think putting a tick  in the compilation box  could be causing   Itunes to split  the tracks  up . Personally  I never use the compilation box, &  label the album & song artist as the same.
