Whatever happenedd to the missing Sigma Sound sessions?

A tad unimpressed with The Gouster - most of which I'd already heard. :(

The shoplifters in Hull are very discerning as well, they take things back if there is anything wrong with them.

I have had a few quick scans through the set and noticed the first mistake; the "original single edit" of Fame has been reproduced. It is different to the original single. There is no guitar chord before the line "Is it any wonder". It's Nothing Has Changed all over again.

There's nothing really new on this box set.

I hadn't heard the Harry Maslin mix of Station To Station before but that's about all. Two versions of David Live. Two versions of Station To Station.

The advertising blurb made great play of having The Gouster included in this box but anyone who was really interested would have heard those tracks years ago.

Is it too early to start wondering what's on next years offering? Low, "Heroes", Stage, Lodger.

No doubt there will be two versions of Stage included. The original and the 2005 version.

Suppose we'll get that awful French version of "Heroes".

One of the Earl's Court shows in it's entirety would be welcome. (David Hemmings actually filmed one of the Stage shows at Earl's Court).

When these annual box sets have reached Blackstar in .... whenever that will be, what then? Everything Bowie ever recorded will have been released umpteen times. Will we be rushing out to buy his complete oeuvre all over again in MQA or whatever the latest audio format is? (I say, "rushing out" but I realise that the days of bothering your local record shop on release day have long gone for most of us).

I think once all the Box sets are released bringing us up to date, only then will the archives be opened up to unreleased material.  Hopefully this will be sympathetically done in the way that Dylan or Springsteen have done theirs.   I suppose this largely depends on who is put in charge.

I doubt there is much unreleased material. With just about anything finding it's way onto the internet these days I think if somebody was sitting on a treasure trove of Bowie material they'd be making money out of it already. Tony Visconti certainly would!

I don’t know how many people are aware, but there is a different download version of the ‘WCIBN?’ box set, and that is the HD version. This set consists of ‘DD’, ‘David Live’ (Original Mix), ‘TG’, ‘YA’ & ‘STS’ (Original Mix). For those that are not into this sort of stuff, the HD files in this case, & the previous ‘Five Years’ box set, have been released in 192/24 which is quite a substantial leap from a normal CD which is 44/24. Needless to say, the studio albums are sublime, and ‘DD’ is staggeringly good. But the real surprise is the ‘David Live’ (Original Mix) album. Boy, this is absolutely stunning and is far beyond my expectations. Whereas before this album was always talked about in terms of being a pony (& trap = crap) mix, this new 2016 remastered version removes all those comments straight away. TV always said that the bass was weak, but not anymore. Herbie Flowers bass lines are exceptional on this release. His run downs on ‘Moonage Daydream’ are wonderful & his virtuoso performance of ‘The Width Of A Circle’ is one of the best ever on a Dame release. I also never realised just how much keyboard Michael Kamen played either. His organ & synth lines are a lovely addition to the fabulous Mike Garson piano parts. Tony Newman’s drums have never sounded better & the stereo spread, especially on ‘TWOAC’ is really lifted right out of the mix. Overall, the horns & MK’s oboe have such a definition, it is easy to pick out the arrangements, which before always seemed too muddy & lost. Interestingly, when this album was first put onto cd, the link between the end of ’Sweet Thing’ into ‘Changes’ (the L.P. Version faded at this point) was ruined by a noisy amp as MG played his part, but someone has reviewed this. It now sounds lovely and clean. The effects on the backing vocals on ‘Diamond Dogs’ also appear to be much more prominent too. I really do love the ‘new’ mix of ‘David Live’ as it more of a document of the ‘DD Tour’ in general, but the one major disappointment for me on that version was the song ’Sweet Thing’. The vocal during the ‘Candidate’ seemed to be mixed far too low, especially when the song picks up, but here, the original mix, it sounds as thrilling as it always did, only much clearer. I take my hat off to whoever has mastered this album for HD, it is like having a completely new release !

Thanks for that marksach. Very interesting. I've been listening to a lot of HD recordings over the last few months and did wonder about getting Who Can I Be Now? in that format. I've always loved the original vinyl David Live and after reading your comments I think I'll get the HD downloads.

Thanks again.

I have never been to Hull.

Now, what are the odds, fair Stationers, of individual LP issues of Nassau '76, and both versions of STS? And shall their prices be insane?

I wonder when they will announce the next box set, it should be the most important of the series (including the best work from his cannon). Low was never my no.1 album but it will be interesting to see what comes out.  :love
