Pre-69 Bowie is too much material to even try to get my head around but afterwards I think things get easier. I am trying to get all songs, versions (i.e. re-recordings) and remixes that exist (so basically don't care about remasters). So far I have:

You will need an '80s pressing of "Never Let Me Down" to get all original tracks for that album, as the song "Too Dizzy" was excised from all reissues of the album at DB's behest. This also includes the "Loving the Alien" boxset.

Some would see encouraging a person to buy the Loving The Alien boxset as equivalent to a declaration of war.

To an extent, it depends on how naval-gazy you want to get, in terms of every tin-pot alternative 12" remix version!  Watch out, some tracks also aren't on Bowie albums.  This is a really good place to start - http://www.illustrated-db-discography.nl/

Some people who have different taste from you aren't crazy, despite what you may think.

I don't think the 80's were Bowie's best era, but I am enjoying listening to live shows from 1987 currently.

Remixes are not used to improve songs and most of the time they harm the work of the artist who has developed a series of nuances

there's allegedly several versions of The Laughing Gnome on a tape somewhere
do i want a 12'' limited release of them all ?

they are fantastic companion pieces if it's the whole album and there's a box set to flog though
coloured vinyl and what you already have shuffled about 'on vinyl' aren't the easiest wallet openers for me
