Considering the recent posts about outtakes...

Anyone could share this CD-R sold in e-bay ca. 2011

Silver and Gold: Rare Acetates and Outtakes 1966-68

(I copy pasted what appears at IdbD forum...don't blame me  )

Love You till Tuesday (first demo)
acoustic with additional lyrics "I'm the coffee in your coffee, the spoon in your tea, if you've got a problem then it's probably me"

Over the Wall We Go - EMIdisc acetate
version with the spoken break in the middle and long spoken fade out where the inmate "picked up a car, so I can get out and about a bit more"

When I'm Five - Demo
significantly different from the BBC/Decca version that eventually surfaced...up tempo with a similar beginning and structure to April's tooth of Gold - the guide demo used by the Beatstalkers who recorded it

April's Tooth of Gold
very rare unreleased acetate from late 1967/68 - sung in the style of Tommy Steele

Silver Tree Top School For Boys
demo recorded with the Riot Squad

Short Interview at The Marquee Club 1966

That's a Promise - studio outake 1965

Silly Boy Blue - demo
recorded with The Lower Third October 1965 - entirely different lyrics about London rather than Tibet with a similar bass riff/feeling to the Beatles " I Want to Hold Your Hand"

Little Toy Soldier - studio outake
widely available on bootleg

I'm Waiting For The Man
studio outake recorded with the Riot squad

When I Live My Dream - Decca Outake 1967
used in the film Love you till Tuesday

London Bye ta-ta
recently surfaced version on the Decca remaster

Thanks in advance

This acetate was offered by the now defunct Bowie Audio site and there are only 30 copies of it (I've got one of them).

Now here's what is written on it:

"A Bowie Audio private release
Not for sale or trade"

So, well, I would gladly share it if wasn't for that mention.

I remember korupt was one of the mods there. It would be nice to have his input on the subject. Especially since David's passing.

Well, are you talking about Silver Treetop track, right? If yes...

I was around the last year before BA closed (where are sphinx and subterranean?...trevorhalvo is the same Trevor at BWW?...Mattis could be found at IdbB forum), I was just starting to get rarities, then I went to MWP, around 2007.

Well, this CD-R was sold like a silver, with artwork and all that.

The demo is already in youtube (and I already linked it in the outtakes thread)
And is for sure spread.
Until today, I believed I had lost it...now just minutes ago I found in my vaults a DVD backup of BA stuff, with the Silver Treetop in WAV (the file is named SILVER TREETOP SCHOOL FOR BOYS, capital letters)

I respect your ethics, but keep in mind that the track is already beyond that 30 copies since ca.2010
I was not a member of some kind of inner circle in BA, and indeed, just in a first glance, it's the only lossless file I have from BA

(this kind of talk started to bring memories about MWP)

Anyway, Silver and Gold seems a nice collection, although nothing new by 2011, according IdbD people, I believe some of us here would be glad if it's shared.

It sounds like a great little collection.

My thoughts about if it can be shared:
It is either a bootleg or not a bootleg.
If its a bootleg not containing officially released material then it can be shared.
If we for a second say that we here at BowieStation released a bootleg and said no else can share it, then it defeats the hole idea about sharing the music and taking the monetary aspect out of the bootlegs, what we are doing is the opposite of creating a small club that has to have what no one else can have.

I dont know Bowie Audio, I tried googeling it, not a lot of info, but it seemed to be like we do here or did at MWP. MWP was the first forum that I got a bit involved in.

goa you should off course only do what ever you feel is right and want to

Anyway, just my two cents

My two cents regarding NoControl's point, "A Bowie Audio private release Not for sale or trade".

If this was to be shared as a torrent, I think that it would be ok as I personally don't see a torrent as either a "sale" or "trade". No one is parting with any money to receive the torrent and no-one is exchanging anything to receive it when they latch onto a torrent. The only thing 'given' back is the same file when the leecher becomes a seeder.

So, for me, unless this has been released by some official record company, it would seem that it could be shared here. However, as always, it is within gift of the holder of the material to decide whether to share or not and that decision must always be respected, if we do not agree with or understand it..

It would seem that at least one, maybe more, torrents shared here recently (Leon springs to mind) can now be purchased on the www. Irritating but that's they way that it goes. I smile when I see people torrenting on other sites asking that the torrent shouldn't be converted to MP3 or sold as torrents are like pictures or anything else that is digital. Once it's in digital format and shared in public, no-one can stop it from spreading or from preventing people doing to it what they want to do.

Which is exactly why there are items people will simply not share.

Indeed which is where conversations can degenerate into the "why not share". I have my own views but, having had a fairly recent discussion with someone in this position on this forum where I expressed them and got a response back from one such person I can understand and appreciate their viewpoint now.

Getting back on topic though, I have a few of these tracks.
The Riot Squad one is from a 4-track EP called "Toy Soldier" including the following:
1 - Toy Soldier
2 - Silly Boy Blue
3 - Waiting For The Man (with the harmonica intro)
4 - Silver Treetop School For Boys
Love You till Tuesday (first demo) - this one is on the White Album
There is a version of "Over The Wall We Go" on the same album but I think this is a different version

Will keep looking

Also found "Waiting For The Man" on "Essential David Bowie - Vol 1 Emerged From Shadows" too.
A much cleaner copy on this one compared to the Riot Squad EP, which is a vinyl rip

Gosh.

But what is the status of that legend?

What does it actually mean?

And, should one be reckless enough to disregard that -- what should we call it: "advice"? "warning"? "request"? -- what repercussions might follow?

It seems to me that such pseudo-legalese text on a bootleg recording has about as much meaning as the text on a till receipt from a supermarket that tells you to "retain for your records".

I don't know if I'll ever be called upon to produce a full set of supermarket till receipts, but if I am there'll be trouble because I just disregard the instruction  and chuck 'em away.

Presumably, everyone else files them carefully in plastic pockets in date-order and, unlike me, has dozens of ring binders full of old receipts they feel honour-bound to keep ...

Actually, I only need one ring binder filed in date order as the receipts are chucked away when the guarantee period has expired. My wife is very good at filing these...!  ;)  :-)

I will look and see if I still have a copy of this, but if anyone has it I don't see an issue of uploading it here.

and just to let you guys know. bowieaudio and MWP did she a lot over the time both were online. Most did not know this as it was a deal made between a member on MWP and myself. MWP shared lossless boots where bowieaudio for the main part shared in mp3. But between the MWP member and myself we released some lossless stuff to bowieaudio.

OK I will upload it next week (I'm quite busy at the moment). I wanted to have your input on this, as a BA ex-mod.

I didn't ask for your perception of the legend. I couldn't care less about it. You and I are 2 different persons.

I was just saying that not once did I copy or shared this recording because of it, as ridiculous as it may be in your eyes.

And I needed korupt's input because if my memory serves me well, I wouldn't have this copy without him. Now he gave it, and that's all I was asking for.

Au contraire. Your earlier post suggests you care about about it very much:

Quote:

Quote:

So, well, I would gladly share it if wasn't for that mention

That seems quite different from saying "I'm not going to upload a copy of a bootleg recording to a bootleg sharing website unless or until I get permission from the person who gave me a copy (who, incidentally, is not the rights holder either)" which is what you seem to be saying here:

Quote:

And I needed korupt's input because if my memory serves me well, I wouldn't have this copy without him. Now he gave it, and that's all I was asking for.

Or have I misunderstood again?

I'm actually interested in your meaning and reasoning; I'm not trying to skewer you on your own words, but they are all I have to go on: I can only get at your intended meaning through the words you have posted.

"I'm not going to upload a copy of a bootleg recording to a bootleg sharing website unless or until I get permission from the person who gave me a copy"

That's exactly what I meant except that I wasn't waiting for his permission (he did not give me the copy, BA did) but rather HIS OPINION (he's an ex-member of the BA team), since we're in a new context (BA is defunct + Bowie is dead). A careful reading of my 1st post was enough to understand this.

Now, generally speaking, the opinion of the world at large is utterly irrelevant to me when I have to keep my word towards anyone - in this instance, the Bowie Audio team.
